My daughter didn’t want to get out of the car for school that morning. The day before, Lindsay had been called ugly names by another eighth grader.
I thought back to my own school days. I’d been bullied by a fellow student, too. Finally I got up the courage to tell my Sunday-school teacher about what was going on. She prayed with me, and miraculously I wasn’t bothered anymore. Would God help me with that same problem today?
“Lindsay,” I said, “if the bullying continues we’ll go to the principal. For now, let’s pray together.” Lindsay nodded and clasped my hand. “Lord, please watch over my daughter,” I said. “Send your angels to surround and protect her.”
Squeezing Lindsay’s shoulder, I glanced down at the ring that she and her father had given me for my birthday. I slipped it off my finger and onto hers. “Look at this,” I said, “and imagine the ring of angels around you.”
All day I fretted about Lindsay, but she bounded through the door after school as if she didn’t have a care in the world. “It worked!” she shouted. She took the ring off her finger and put it back on mine. “Thanks, Mom, for your prayers,” she said.
Thank you, Lord, for your angels.
