We threw the birthday party to end all birthday parties last weekend. My daughter Louisiana turned 14 and invited a gang of her girlfriends to our house to celebrate.
Oh, to be a teenage girl! They put on makeup like they were twentysomethings, took pictures of one another like they were models, and then played on the backyard swing set like they were still in elementary school.
Louisiana had spent all morning baking layers of cake in all different shapes and sizes. The girls teamed up, built, assembled and decorated three-tier cakes in serious Cake Boss-style. I stuck candles on their iced masterpieces, and we sang “Happy Birthday” again and again, with our renditions becoming less traditional and more “original” with each round.
I believe angels will help make sure all Louisiana’s wishes come true. I also believe girls rule.
