It had been a long winter—one fraught with icy winds and too many health and financial problems. So when the sun peeked from behind the clouds I decided to take a walk before heading to the middle school for my tutoring job.
The sky was so bright I’d stopped to trade my regular lenses for my sunglasses from the car. Sunlight swallowed me up and I lost track of time. I checked my watch. I’ll have to hurry!
I rushed inside, gathered my things and jumped in the car. I was almost at school when I reached into my purse for my regular lenses. They weren’t there. I’d laid my glasses on the roof of the car before my walk!
Of course the glasses hadn’t survived the rooftop trip. They were flung who knew where.
There was no time to search now. I’ll find them on the way home, I thought. I just have to. But what were the chances they would be safe until then? I could almost hear the crunch of someone’s tire crushing them already. God, protect my glasses.
Later I drove home slowly, with my hazard lights on and my eyes scanning the road.
Surely, those glasses were broken into a million pieces by now. I parked in my driveway and walked down the block on foot. I zigged and zagged to check both sides of the two-lane road. Nothing. Wait, what was that?
The sun flashed on something shiny right in the middle of the blacktop. I looked both ways and ran into the road. My glasses!
I picked them up carefully, examining them for dents, scratches, bent frames. They were in perfect condition. After lying in the middle of a busy street for over an hour, protected by angels.
