A thunderous roar made me look up from my cubicle and out the window. When had the sunny afternoon turned into a dark, torrential downpour?
At least I’d already gone out to get my lunch, and I had a ton of work in front of me. Christmas work, for Guideposts’ The Joys of Christmas 2014, which will go to press in about a week. I was going nowhere soon, so… let it rain, let it rain, let it rain!
I concentrated on the story I was editing about a woman who bakes gingersnap cookies for her mom–and plenty of other people. And not just at Christmastime, either.
She described the soft and chewy texture of her cookies, not like the gingersnaps I knew. I was intrigued. Of course I went straight to allrecipes.com to find photos to drool over. Yum! One baker put fresh-churned vanilla bean ice cream in between two chewy “snaps.” A treat fit for angels!
The day was threatening to get away from me, and I got back to editing. “My cookies were like little clouds of ginger goodness,” our Christmas contributor wrote. Clouds… I glanced out the window. The sun was back. Just in time for me to run out for a late afternoon treat!
