Every spring and summer for the past six years, I’ve played on the Guideposts co-ed softball team. It’s great to get together with colleagues and friends outside of the office for fun times battling other New York City companies for supremacy of the Central Park ball fields.
But at a game a few weeks ago, one teammate suggested we fight a different battle with our softball skills. She told us about the third annual American Cancer Society Softball Invitational, a double elimination tournament aiming to raise money to benefit cancer patients and the search for a cure. Since it began, the tournament has raised over $50,000 in support of the fight against cancer.
Inspired by this week’s Be an Angel Day, I signed up for Team Hope and sent emails to my friends asking for donations. So far, I’ve raised $225 dollars, and our team has raised $1,270. It’s only a drop in the bucket, but it’s a great way to combine something we love to do with a worthy cause.
