Hi. I’m Colleen Hughes, editor in chief of Angels on Earth with a true story of an everyday angel from Rhonda Johnson in Norwood, Colorado. Angels come to us every day, as a neighbor, an unexpected rescuer, a kind stranger, or a loyal pet. Listen now to a story of just such an everyday angel.
It saddened Rhonda when she found out her husband’s mother Joyce had cancer. Certainly God wouldn’t let this happen, Rhonda thought. But Joyce didn’t share their concern. God is good, she said, quoting from her favorite prayer. After Joyce’s death, Rhonda took home her Bible. Taped inside was a yellowed paper with their favorite prayer she’d typed so long ago. God is good it began.
10 years later, while Rhonda and her husband were away on vacation, their house burned down. As bad as they expected things to be, they were shocked when they returned. Nothing was left, nothing. Then something fluttered in the breeze, a faded piece of paper. An old grocery list? Notes she’d made while packing for the vacation?
The paper settled by her feet. Whatever it was, to her, it felt precious, the one thing that had survived the fiery destruction. She picked it up. “God is good,” she read. Joyce’s faith calmed her heart. Rhonda knew God would surely bring them a brighter tomorrow.
