Three-year-old Micah saw a wall full of Halloween costumes while we were out shopping one afternoon.
"Mommy, I want to be Snow White for Halloween," she said. Her eyes sparkled as she stroked the glittery gold skirt. As far as I was concerned, Micah was too young for trick-or-treating. But I had another idea.
On October 31 Micah dressed up in the Snow White costume she'd fallen in love with. We filled a Halloween bucket with princess stickers and drove to the assisted-living center where her great-grandmother lives.
My preschool princess went from room to room passing out treats to the residents. They loved the attention, but I hoped Micah was satisfied. "Did you have fun?" I asked as we were leaving.
"Yes, Mommy," my daughter replied. "We really cheered them up!" Somehow she knew that was sweeter than Halloween candy.
