Angels come to us every day, as a neighbor, an unexpected rescuer, a kind stranger, or a loyal pet. Listen now to a story of just such an everyday angel.
Fran and her husband, Tom, parked on an isolated Nantucket beach. They wanted to watch the sunset.
When the light was gone, they decided to go back to their inn. Tom stepped on the gas. The tire spun in the sandy mud. Each attempt to get out made them sink deeper.
Pushing the car didn’t work either. They were very far from the main road. God, Fran asked, send someone our way.
Suddenly in the distance, Fran noticed the outline of a shack. From it, a glow moved toward them.
Finally, she saw the bent figure of an old man. He carried a lantern.
There were nets slung over her shoulder. Try these. He tossed the nets to Tom.
Tom packed them behind the tires. He gunned the engine. The tires gripped the nets. Tom backed out. They turned to thank the old man, but he was gone.
Back at the inn, they told the proprietor about the old fisherman from the shack. Old man, the proprietor asked, that fishing shanty has been abandoned for years.
