Not even noon yet and already my ankles were aching.
Still, I needed to exercise. Just a walk around the block, at least, I thought. I put on my nylon braces and laced up my boots, but just couldn’t face leaving the house.
I plopped onto the couch instead. “Oh, Lord, I just don’t think I can manage it today,” I said.
A big, fat dragonfly zoomed by the window. I loved watching those colorful summer creatures. That was one reason to go outdoors. Maybe I’ll see a couple more if I go on my walk.
Outside, I lumbered up the hill by my house. A blur caught my eye. Not one dragonfly, but more than I’d ever seen. They swooped overhead in a massive cluster, my own private air show. Riding the wind, hovering and dipping.
As I stretched out my hand, some came playfully near. To think I would’ve missed this if I stayed on the couch!
I haven’t seen a swarm of dragonflies since that morning. But every day when I put on my boots and start up the hill, I remember my own winged personal trainers!
