One night, Patty visited her mother in the nursing home. Her mother had been declining slowly and it was evident from what the hospice nurse said that her time was very short.
“I told her it was OK to go on and leave because Jesus was waiting for her,” Patty wrote to me. “I assured her that we would all be fine and loved her dearly. She never opened her eyes but I could sense that she was hearing me.” Her mom had spoken often about “going home.” For a while they thought she was speaking about the home she had lived in for 50 years, but in time they realized she was speaking about her heavenly home, which people so often do.
That night Patty had a wonderful dream that the angels were coming to take her mother home with them. It was a lovely dream, one that comforted her. “I have always been very close to my mother,” she wrote, “and I guess that was God’s way of letting me know she would soon be with him.”
She was awakened early the next morning by a call from her sister. The nursing home had called to say that their mother had died peacefully about 5:30 AM.
God has been speaking to his children since time began. Stories told in Scriptures, in both the Old and the New Testament, tell of God’s messages to his children through dreams. It is one of the many blessings God bestows on us.
