A moment of wonder during the filming of TV’s “Gilmore Girls.”

The weekend after Thanksgiving, in addition to putting up my Christmas tree and hanging up wreaths in every free corner of my apartment, I watched all four episodes of the new Gilmore Girls revival on Netflix.

I had watched the TV show throughout high school and college, so I was completely thrilled when Netflix brought it back this past November. I have mixed feelings about how well the whole thing turned out. But it was still kind of wonderful to see all those beloved characters back on my TV screen.

Wonderful for the actors involved too. Lauren Graham, who plays Lorelai Gilmore on the show, recently recounted on The Ellen DeGeneres Show a pretty incredible wonder she experienced while back on set.

“On the very first day, I was so nervous and I couldn’t decide what to wear because it was the scene where it’s the first time you’ll see my character,” Lauren recalled. “I kept changing, changing, changing, and finally I had to go, so I picked something off the rack. It was a little big and my dresser pinned it in the back.”

After a day of shooting, the woman styling Lauren knocked on her dressing room door.

“I have something to show you,” she told Lauren. “I swear I didn’t see this before, but this is the shirt you picked.”

Lauren examined the tag of the shirt she’d selected on her first day of playing Lorelai Gilmore for the second time in her career. A shirt by the designer Diane von Furstenberg called… “Lorelei Two.”

Now that’s what I call a “mysterious ways”!

“It became such a symbol for me,” Lauren said, “of all the special, magical, incredible things that had to happen for this to come together.”
