Last Thursday, I was running late to work, feeling frazzled. Until I ran into editor Rick Hamlin walking into our office building. He greeted me with a song from Guys and Dolls. Rick continued to sing, even when we got on an elevator full of people. What a way to start the day!
Rick’s in a musical mood these days. You see, he’s on a quest to sing 60 songs in 60 days in honor of his 60th year on earth. So far, he’s sung 19 tunes, including “Here I Am, Lord,” “Moon River” and even a little “Feed the Birds” from the movie Mary Poppins.
When I asked Rick how his project was going, he shared something kind of amazing from day 14.
That day, during lunchtime, Rick walked to John Street Church in lower Manhattan to sing “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling.” The church is just down the street from our office and was founded in 1766–in fact, it’s the oldest Methodist congregation in the country.
The moment Rick sang the word “Jesus,” a bright white van passed behind him. When he got to the last line, “Enter every trembling heart,” he heard a horn sound in the background.
We agreed it was a pretty sweet lunch-break miracle! The horn even sounded a bit heavenly to my ears.
But I want to know what you think. Listen to the video, specifically seconds 21 and 39, and share your thoughts below.
