Defeat Worry with These 3 Promises from God

Have you ever stretched a rubber band as far as it will go? To just about to the breaking point? That’s kind of how I felt one day awhile back. It had been an unusual amount of stress for my family, and I was done. Past my last good nerve. Over it. I felt like I was ready to snap.

I had a long list of errands on this day. I was so tired that it felt like I was running a marathon. I went to the grocery store, the department store and finally to the post office to mail a package.

I’d driven the back way to the stores, and as I returned home, I went through a section of winding mountain roads bordered by a river. The tiny post office perches next to the water, so I pulled into the parking lot—and received the perfect vantage point for viewing the river.

There’s something healing about water—whether it’s a babbling brook, a still stream or a raging river. It soothes my soul. I rolled down the car window and watched the water crashing against the rocks, letting the sounds of God’s creation wash over me with a sweet and precious peace. No wonder God mentions water so much in His Word.

So when you’re stretched to the breaking point, remember three of His promises to us:

1)  To be with us.
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.” (Isaiah 43:2)

2)  To restore our souls.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.  He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. (Psalm 23:1-3)

3)  To give us hope.
For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, that flow out of valleys and hills. (Deuteronomy 8:7)

Are you going through a difficult time? Stick your toes in the waters of His grace and love. Enjoy His creation and be reminded that the God who created that beauty can take care of you. He can provide the peace that you need along the way.
