God’s Green Earth

Earth Day is an easy day to take for granted, but take the opportunity to reflect upon why God’s creation is so amazing.

Earth Day is Wednesday, April 22. It may be an easy day to take for granted, but because I love this day, I took the opportunity to reflect upon why God’s creation is so amazing in this poem, “God’s Green Earth”:

The green of leaves

Of grass

Of buds

Nothing quiets my soul more than God’s green earth

Nothing brings me peace more than God’s green earth

Nothing makes me feel more connected

More reflective

More contented

The green of trees

Of moss

Of weeds

Everything reveals His handiwork on God’s green earth

Everything reflects His love on God’s green earth

Everything makes me truly joyful

Truly blessed

Truly grateful

God’s green earth.

This year for Earth Day, why not write your own poem, journal entry or meditation about what Earth Day means to you? Even if you’re not an experienced writer, you can do it.

1)  Gather your writing tools–pen and paper, or your computer.

2)  Find a quiet place.

3)  Quiet your mind. I usually close my eyes, take a deep breath and wait for the words to flow.

4)  Write what you feel. Just get the words down on paper first. Don’t worry about style or order yet.

5)  Think about all your senses. What do you feel, smell, and hear when you’re in the midst of God’s wonderful creation?

6)  Now, look over your work and make any changes. Refine and edit until it’s the way you like it.

Most important of all, when you’re done, be sure to share it with others. Don’t keep your light under a bushel! You will bless others when you share your feelings.

Oh, and if possible, do your writing outdoors. You’ll find inspiration all around you, on God’s green earth.
