The nice thing about writing about miracles? People come to me to report the miracles and wonders unfolding in their lives on a regular basis. Last Thursday, for example, an email popped up in my inbox from my colleague Lorie Melendez, who works for Guideposts’ OurPrayer ministry.

“Today I received a much needed boost in my faith and credit,” she said in her email. When I read her miracle, I just had to share it.

Here’s Lorie’s story…

My husband and I are trying to purchase our first home in Beacon, New York.  The other day, at work, I contacted my mortgage broker to follow up on the status of our loan application.  He informed me that our mortgage application is being considered, however, it will take some additional time. He said we may not be able to use my credit score because it’s low.

I was discouraged by the news because it reminded me of the reason my score is low in the first place. In January 2007, I lost my job due to workplace discrimination. It was the most difficult experience I’ve had to face by far. The heartache of losing my job and not being able to meet my financial obligations was a crushing blow to my family. Even though we’re back on our feet now, the stain of late payments and debt collection will continue to reflect negatively on my credit score for a few more years.

I hung up the phone with my broker, a pang of discouragement flooding my heart. “Lord, it is so unfair that all these years later, I’m still being hurt by this case!” I thought. I didn’t do anything wrong, yet I’m feeling the effects of losing that job years later.  I was on the verge of tears.

At that very moment, though, I received a call from my co-worker Linda. A frame had fallen over on her desk, she said. Behind it, she discovered a card. Something she’d received from a friend years earlier and had forgotten all about. For some reason, she immediately thought of me. A few minutes later, she stopped by my desk to deliver the card to me in person.

My heart skipped a beat when I saw it. “God’s Credit Card” it said.

Linda didn’t know anything about my current situation, and yet God used her to minister to me! To show me that, no matter what happens, He’s in charge with unlimited resources and kindness.

How encouraging it is to serve a God of perfect timing, unlimited resources and, yes, an outstanding credit history!
