Edward wasn’t in his office when both he and I got the email here in New York: “Julee’s wallet has been found.”
Julee is Edward’s wife. She was up in the country at their place near Great Barrington, Massachusetts. She hadn’t realized that her wallet was missing. Not yet.
The people who found it happened to be upstairs neighbors of ours. Also in the country, enjoying a summer escape from the city.
They saw Julee’s name in the wallet. And Edward’s. But no address anywhere near Great Barrington. How to find the owner? Quick.
They had discovered one more clue. Edward’s business card, “editor-in-chief of Guideposts.”
Guideposts? Wasn’t that where I worked? Couldn’t they get in touch with me? So they called my wife, Carol, and Carol sent the email to Edward and me. All in a matter of minutes.
Edward sauntered in from the errand he was running. He looked at his email and scratched his head. How did Carol know where Julee’s wallet was?
“This is insane,” he said to me. As best I could I tried to explain. “Our upstairs neighbors were at the post office in Great Barrington, and they found this wallet with your business card in it…”
Once again, Guideposts saved the day. Or at least offered the clue that brought Julee’s wallet back to Julee—before she even knew it was gone.
Some prayers get answered before they’re even uttered!
