TV news is filled with sad stories, and it seemed WMTW’s morning report was yet another example.
A 73-year-old man, Robert McDonough of Limington, Maine, had been missing for 14 hours. He suffered from dementia and his family was worried about what would happen if he wasn’t found soon. Game wardens had been using infrared cameras on airplanes to search for the man in the thick woods near his home but hadn’t been able to find him.
Then, while reporting on McDonough’s disappearance, the WMTW news crew got a surprise visitor:
The news crew was able to identify McDonough and reunite him with his family. Despite a cold night in the woods and a few scratches, he was fine.
Here’s another incredible story: If you told me that a 500-pound lion named Bonedigger had an 11-pound dachshund in its mouth, I’d say that would not be something our readers would be in a hurry to see. But trust me, this video is gore-free:
According to the Today show, the animals grew up together, and the dachshund’s strange ritual cleans the lion’s teeth and demonstrates the trust and affection they have for each other.

It’s unexpected relationships like these that shake up our preconceived notions of the world. They open our eyes to wonder.
