Noah’s Ark

God answers this photographer’s prayers not two by two, but one by one!

We all know the story of Noah’s Ark—the Lord brought the animals two by two for Noah to put on the ark. What a sight that must have been to see all the animals come to him!

“You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you. Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive.” (Genesis 6:19-20, NIV)

As I mentioned in my very first blog post, I pray for the Lord to show me or to bring to me what He wants me to photograph. I cannot begin to tell you the amazing stories of the wildlife He has brought to me. Most of the time I sit in awe simply amazed by His answers to my prayers.

Usually, the animals don’t come two by two, but one by one. Animals make amazing appearances—I believe sometimes they are just for me in response to my prayers.

Today’s episode occurred at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia. I wanted to photograph the ruby-throated hummingbird and hadn’t taken any great images yet. After not seeing any hummingbirds at my normal places, I went back to the red buckeye tree because I knew they love to feed there.

A male hummingbird visits the tree often, and I watched him as he fed then perched in neighboring trees. Suddenly, he flew next to me and sat on a metal railing to check me out. The Lord knew I wanted to photograph that shot, but my camera wasn’t facing the right direction. Typically, when I move my large lens in the direction of a hummingbird, it will fly away.

But guess what? The God that created the Heavens and Earth delights in me, and I captured a lot of great shots!

The LORD detests people with crooked hearts, but he delights in those with integrity. (Proverbs 11:20, NLT)

Have you asked the Lord for simple requests too? Remember, He brought the animals to the ark two by two!
