As a little boy in Miami, Jason Roth was obsessed with Superman. His parents had to stop him from running outside in his Man of Steel Underoos to do battle with Lex Luthor.

When Jason was four, he went to live with his aunt for a few months in Lakeland, 220 miles north. Of course he wore his favorite faded T-shirt with the S emblem for the Lakeland preschool Halloween parade.

3 of 9 The Girl

In 2002, Jason’s senior year at Florida State University, he met a girl named Jessica at a bar in Tallahassee. They quickly fell in love.

The fall of 2003, Jason was looking through some old photographs when he discovered one from that preschool parade. The blonde girl in a genie costume looked familiar. He showed the photo to Jessica. “That’s me,” she said. “I wanted to be Princess Leia but my grandmamma thought that was too risqué!”

Not long after, Jason proposed to Jessica. She said yes! “That photo was proof that we were meant to be together,” says Jason.

The providential pairing was made official on April 9, 2005, when Jason and Jessica were wed. “Life is sometimes hard when we’re all in our separate orbits, but sometimes those orbits meet and come together to create a wonderful world,” Jason says.

8 of 9 A Superhero Family

Now, after 10 years of marriage, with three young boys, Jason and Jessica still like to dress up for Halloween—the whole family gets to play superheroes.

9 of 9 The Next Generation

We have always enjoyed Halloween in our family and often have a lot of fun with it,” Jason says. “The past couple of years we have been adopting a theme for our family. Last year we did the Justice League. We were the Avengers the year before. This year, my youngest son, Coleson, actually donned the squared S.”
