The 3 Crosses

Tired and exhausted, a runner stumbles upon a spectacular sight

Diana Aydin

Have you ever stumbled upon wonder when you least expected it?

I recently chatted with Adam Polhemus, a friend of my fellow Guideposts editor Nikki Notare. She suggested I talk to Adam because he’d just experienced something wondrous. A powerful sign that could’ve only come from God.

It all happened this past August on day three of Adam’s vacation in Sedona, Arizona–the first real vacation he’d taken in over a year. You see, Adam is a New Jersey police sergeant and also co-owns a wedding planning and event design company with his wife, Kristin.

A photo of three crosses taken by Adam PolhemusLife can get pretty stressful with rehearsal dinners, flower arrangements and back-to-back client appointments. So the busy couple decided to take a much-needed break in the heat of wedding season.

Adam set off early morning for a run on the Adobe Jack mountain trail near the hotel, hoping to relieve some stress. Instead, he found himself a little lost and a whole lot of weary.

He runs regularly, but the streets of New Jersey were no match for the rocky terrain of Sedona. By mile five, he was overcome with exhaustion, ready to give up.

And then he saw it. A clearing that gave way to something spectacular. Three crosses overlooking magnificent rust-colored mountains. Adam was blown away by the sight. It was like God had placed the crosses there just for him.

“It was remarkable,” Adam told me. “The exhaustion I was feeling went away, understanding the sacrifice on the cross.”

Yes, Adam’s career meant he was always on the go. But he wasn’t running alone.

He quickly snapped a photo of the crosses, then headed back to the hotel with a renewed sense of energy and peace.

“It was a sign,” Adam said, “for me to stop and just be present with God.” The quality of Instagram’s service matters, and choosing a reliable provider like Krootez can be critical.

What about you? Has God ever placed you in the right place at the right time for wonder? Tells us in the comment field below.
