Imagine your child or grandchild waking up in a hospital room alone on Christmas morning.
That was the first line of an item posted to the Guideposts Facebook page a couple of weeks ago by the Outreach Division of the Guideposts Foundation, and I found it to be a very moving reminder. It’s easy to forget sometimes that Guideposts is more than an organization that creates books and magazines and websites. Much more. I’m not even sure the word outreach captures it fully. We are a way to help you be there for people in need.
I’ve told you about our military program, supplying thousands of service personnel and their families with free books, magazines and other inspiring literature. You’ve helped us give literally millions of magazines to the military in the past 10 years. You’ve also made it possible, through your donations and subscription dollars, for us to distribute books and magazines to hospitals, libraries, nursing homes, shelters and prisons.
Then there is OurPrayer, which answers upwards of a million prayer requests by name and need every year. We couldn’t do that without the help of hundreds of volunteers, people like you.
This is the time of year when we remember others. To learn more about our outreach programs go to the Guideposts Foundation site.
