For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts. —Isaiah 55:9 (NKJV)

It was the first day of the new year, and I was feeling out of shape. “This year, I am going to start walking at the mall every morning,” I pledged, “no matter what.”

Later the same day, my neighbor Jean called. “Would you mind feeding and walking Amy, my little Pomeranian, every morning and afternoon for one week?”

“My pleasure” was my reply.

The first morning of my walking duties was bitter cold. I regretted telling Jean “my pleasure.” The truth was, no matter how much I love animals, it would still be “my inconvenience.”

When I arrived at Amy’s house, a fluffy, dancing ball of orange fur with sparkly polished-stone brown eyes greeted me. She finished her hello by licking my leg, leaving a trail of dripping doggy drool. I pulled back. Then I took another look—and came face to face with the earnest gaze of a Pomeranian, inviting me to be her friend. As an exclamation point, she made sure to slurp my pant leg again.

The two of us headed outside into the frigid morning. The more we walked, the more I felt a warmth coming from my little companion—from her little Pom heart to mine. Back at the house, after her meal and water, she curled into a ball, using my foot as her pillow, and fell asleep. I closed my eyes for a bit…revived in a way that a walk at the mall could never make me feel.

My early mornings with Amy were not an unpleasant chore at all. They were a New Year’s gift from God, whose mysterious ways brought me an adorable Pom filled with love.

Walk of Faith: The Lord is ready at any time to revive your life, but are you ready? Be open to how He may do it through one of His creatures.
