The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry.  Psalm 34:15

I want my life to be a prayer. I cannot save my prayers for an appointed hour or certain day. Instead, I must practice praying with each and everything I do.

Washing dishes? I can sing. At the gym? I will pray on the treadmill. Playing with my children? I can emulate the way Jesus loved the little children and called them to Himself. Talking with friends? I will allow only good, compassionate and generous words to come from my mouth. When dealing with strangers, I will be particularly kind and thoughtful, even though I will never see them again.

When I’m feeling lonely, I will remind myself that I am never alone. I am always in Christ’s presence. I will keep this in mind when I am tempted not to return a neighbor’s borrowed book or tell a white lie that I assume will not hurt anyone.

It’s the small things that need better housekeeping in my life. After all, nothing is small to the Lord, Who cares about it all. He sees what I do in the dark as well as the light. He hears the thoughts I wouldn’t dare utter. The sinful desires that pulse through me are clear to Him. I will pray that He helps me never to act on the sin that goads me. I do not want to grieve Him by doing something wrong—even when there are no other witnesses to my actions.

Faith Step: Live today as if Jesus is physically beside you, hearing and seeing everything you do.
