Yet he commanded the skies above and opened the doors of heaven. Psalm 78:23 (ESV)
My kids love to swing. Actually, I do too. Something about the fresh breeze, feeling as if I could launch and soar into the air, unencumbered by gravity… it thrills my heart.
I think a swing can draw a person closer to Jesus. That seems simplistic, I understand. But some of the best, most affecting truths come from unassuming sources, such as a piece of playground equipment most of us have enjoyed at one time or another. Much as a swing pushes my heart to aim high, so does God’s Word.
Focusing on Jesus’ promises of a future with Him helps me envision my real life that hasn’t even begun yet: my someday life in heaven with my Savior. Could it be that He wants my heart to soar with Him even now, buoyed with only the hope of the joys to come? Yes, I’m sure of it.
The reason Jesus’ followers are still on earth is to bring glory to Him by shining His light in this world. When we aim high for Him, He can take us to greater heights than we could imagine.
The more we trust Him to take us beyond our finite scope, the greater the possibilities. This concept isn’t just a pie-in-the-sky fairy tale; we are created to aim for more than what we can reach on our own. Every day the Lord wants to carry us higher, if we’ll only set our sights on His realm, a whole world beyond this one.
Faith Step: How big is Jesus’ power in your life? Ask Him to help you aim for more of Him, and expect Him to amaze you with new views of Himself.
