“The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, and He delivers them.” Psalm 34:7 (TNIV)
I once had a difficult work deadline to meet, and so I was up in my office very late at night. My husband had already gone to bed, but I was awake and working at my computer, fortified with some caffeinated tea and a box of chocolates.
We bring our dog into our bedroom each night when we go to bed. I like it because I feel as if she’s there to protect us. Usually my husband takes our dog with him into the bedroom when he goes to bed before I do, so I closed my office door and kept working.
I finished in the wee hours of the morning, and I walked out of my office and tripped over something solid and furry. I flew headfirst into the carpet at the same time I heard a canine yelp. Apparently our dog had lay down right outside my door, encamped outside my office, watching over me. I had rewarded her with a kick to the side, but she was okay. She got lots of love when I picked myself up from the carpet.
The Lord encamps around us just like my dog, guarding us. We may not even be aware of it, like I wasn’t aware of my dog watching over me, but He’s there, never sleeping, always protecting us. Jesus said it Himself: “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Faith step: Are you entering into a difficult situation today? Remember that Jesus is encamped around you. Draw a picture on an index card of a ring of angels around you. Then put it in your purse so that you can look at it during the day. Pray for Him to help you to remember to rest and trust in Him to be watching over you.
