“Well done, my good servant! You have been faithful.”—Luke 19:17
One morning I was feeling overwhelmed by all the needs around me. The poor, the homeless, hurricane and earthquake victims…there seemed to be so little one person could do. But after breakfast I opened the newspaper and read about a church group in Maryland that was raising funds for a children’s home by getting groups of people to save pennies.
Pennies buy so little today that many people will not even bother to pick one up if it is dropped. But this group figured out that there are sixteen pennies in one foot. Therefore, a mile of pennies would be worth $844.80. People brought pennies in boxes and jars. They cleaned out purses, pockets and dresser drawers. And the many small pennies added up to thousands of dollars as churches, friends and neighbors helped.
