“My cup overflows.”—Psalm 23:5
We moved into our two-bedroom apartment six months before the extra bedroom was filled. We bought a crib for it, installed a toy chest and hung new pictures from the walls. But the room still belonged to no one. In fact, I wasn’t sure I was ready for it to be occupied. Carol and I were happy as we were, just the two of us, weren’t we?
Then Willy was born. The crib was filled with cooing and crying, the closets with a pint-sized wardrobe, and of course the diaper pail with its prescribed contents. After a while, I couldn’t remember when the room didn’t belong to Willy. And I couldn’t remember when, once upon a time, I was afraid I wouldn’t have enough love to give to a new member of our family.
The more love you give, the more love you have is God’s wonderfully reversed law of supply and demand.
