“It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.”—Matthew 9:12
A team of doctors removed a large tumor from my head, and my eyes were bandaged for days. I couldn’t see anyone, but I felt love by the prompt response to my call bell, the compassion of a touch, the kindness of a hearing heart. The nurses were competent, to be sure, but it was their caring that drew me to them. When I recovered, I made these characteristics the standard for my own work as a nurse.
I can’t help but think of Jesus, the Great Physician, who not only healed the body, but the mind and the spirit as well. I keep in mind that He is always with me; a doctor who still makes house calls.
