How precious is your steadfast love, O God! —Psalm 36:7 (ESV)
I wasn’t looking forward to Valentine’s Day. After fourteen years of marriage, I was going through a divorce and didn’t want any reminders of how happy other people were with their sweethearts.
My friend Jody called and asked if she could run by.
“Come on over,” I said. “I’m certainly not doing anything.”
Soon Jody arrived at my door, holding a vase filled with a dozen red roses and a box of chocolates. “These aren’t from me,” she said.
I looked at her, confused. “Then . . . who?”
“They’re from God,” Jody explained. “I asked God to make sure that today, of all days, you would know how much He loves you. I know if God were here in the flesh, He’d bring you flowers and chocolates and tell you how much He adores you. I’m just making the delivery.”
For the next full week, the flowers stayed as beautiful as the day Jody brought them, and every time I saw them on my kitchen table I smiled, knowing how much I was truly loved.
Father, thank You for Your servants who remind me just how close by You always are.
