Daily Devotions

A daily devotional is a trusted guide, and it is an invitation to nurture your spiritual life. Devotionals include a Bible verse, a reflection on that verse, and usually a short prayer. They can be inspiring, comforting or even humorous. When you make time to read a daily devotion, you make space for your soul. A daily devotional offers a chance to take a break from the busy world and connect with God. Let your daily devotions lead your spiritual life forward.

The Sacred and the Sifting

“Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”—Luke 22:31-32 (NIV)
This verse reveals Jesus’ love and concern for Peter. Jesus prayed for Peter, asking God to strengthen his faith and protect him from falling away. With all Peter’s flaws and failures, he had an essential role in building up the Church. Life is not always easy, but our loving Savior intercedes for us and enables us to persevere.
Dear God, help me to keep my eyes fixed on You and to rely on Your grace and mercy in every situation.

Blessed Is the Believer

Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.—John 20:29 (KJV)
The adage “seeing is believing” comes from the 17th-century English clergyman Thomas Fuller whose actual statement was, “Seeing is believing, but the feeling is truth.” There is power in believing and trusting what you know to be true in your heart. Thank God for His constant love and support, even when you cannot see or feel His presence.
Almighty God, may my faith continue to grow and flourish, and may I always trust in You, even when I cannot see.

Out of Deep Waters

He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters.—2 Samuel 22:17 (NIV)
The powerful message of being rescued from deep waters is used throughout the Bible to describe God’s salvation and deliverance. It is a reminder that God is your protector, able to save you from even the most complex and overwhelming situations. Rely on His faithfulness and trust Him in times of trouble.
Heavenly Father, when I feel like I am drowning in deep waters, I know that You are the one who can rescue me, just as You rescued David in his time of need.

A Quiet Love of Life

My heart is not proud, Lord, my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me. But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content.—Psalm 131:1–2 (NIV)
Psalm 131 is a reminder to release worries about yourself with matters that are too great or difficult to handle. Instead, trust in God’s wisdom and rest in His presence. Find peace and contentment in Him.
Lord, I lay down my burdens and trust in Your goodness and provision. Quiet my mind and fill my spirit with Your peace.

Overcome Temptation

Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.—Hebrews 2:18 (NIV)
When you are faced with temptation, turn to Jesus for help. He can empathize with your struggles because He suffered and overcame temptation Himself. Ask Him to fill your heart with the desire to live a life that honors Him, and be a light of His love and grace in this world.
Lord, I know You understand. Thank You for giving me strength and guidance when I am struggling. Thank You for giving me the help I need.

Glory to His Name

Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith for his name’s sake.—Romans 1:5 (NIV)
The message in the above verse is a reminder of the power of obedience when being called to share the Gospel with those around you. Ask God to strengthen you to reflect the love and grace of Christ so that others may see your faith and be drawn to Him.
Heavenly Father, I pray my life brings glory to Your name.

Vanity of Vanities

Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher, vanity of vanities! All is vanity.—Ecclesiastes 1:2 (ESV)
Do you resist the temptation of vanity and focus your heart and mind on what truly matters—your relationship with God and the impact you make on the lives of others? Ask for God’s help not to be consumed by worldly pursuits and material possessions, but rather seek to live a life that honors Him and reflects His love.
Heavenly Father, help me use my life to bring glory to Your name and to serve those around me.

Use Problems as Stepping Stones

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.—James 1:2–3 (NIV)
Instead of seeing problems as obstacles, view them as stepping stones. Every challenge you face can help you grow in faith and become stronger and more resilient. You can learn important lessons that will help you navigate future difficulties.
Lord, I know You will use every situation for Your good. Help me move through trials towards a brighter future.

For Such a Time as This

For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”—Esther 4:14 (NIV)
As you reflect on this verse, remember that you are called to be faithful to God’s plan for your life. Trust that He will use your gifts and talents for His glory and guide you toward fulfilling your purpose. Like Esther, you can be confident that God has placed you in your current position “for such a time as this.”
Dear Lord, please give me the courage to step out in faith, just as Esther did, and fulfill my purpose.

Sing a New Song

Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth.—Psalm 96:1 (NIV)
Worship is a clear way to joy. Actively open your heart and voice your willingness to be transformed by His love and grace. Sing a new song and rejoice and renew your commitment to follow Him.
Thank You, Father, for the privilege of singing a new song to You. May Your Holy Spirit fill me with joy and peace, and may my worship please You.

Trust His Plan

Oh, that I might have my request, that God would grant my desire.—Job 6:8 (NIV)
Often when we experience deep suffering, we question why God allowed the situation to happen. If we can’t change the circumstances, we want God to intervene and relieve us of pain. We hope that God will hear us and fulfill our desire, yet ultimately, no matter the outcome, we must trust His divine plan.
Lord, when I am filled with doubt and despair, fill my heart with Your peace.

Release Old Hurts

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.—Isaiah 61:1 (NIV)
Search your heart and reflect on any hurts that have not yet healed. Surrender your pain and unresolved feelings to God. Ask Him to work miracles from your misfortune. Open your heart to His compassion and love. He will free you from pain.
Dear Lord, thank You for caring for me and helping me let go of my grief and sadness. Open my heart to Your healing touch. Work Your miracles and free me from pain.
