The Importance of Being There
I have much to write to you, but I do not want to use paper and ink. Instead, I hope to visit you and talk with you face to face, so that our joy may be complete.—2 John 1:12 (NIV)
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”—JOHN 10:10 NIV
Too often, it seems as if the negatives of life outweigh the positives. The bills are piling up and it’s a juggling act to see who gets paid this month. Your loved one needs to have special care during the upcoming treatments. You’re exhausted and lacking mental focus. Life begins to cave in around you…. It’s just too much!
God’s Word, though, shows us the lie—and the “liar”—behind those defeating thoughts. We have an enemy who delights in our believing such negative things, an enemy who wants only destruction for our souls. But Jesus came to give us life! We only have to choose it, as an act of the will that is blended with faith.
God is always a gentleman—He’s not going to force His life on us. But when we rely on Him alone, He’ll enable us to not only survive but thrive in our daily routine.
Each day, let’s make a conscious decision to take hold of what Christ offers us—life, to the full.
Loving Lord, help me daily to choose You and the life You want to give me. Give me the eyes of faith to trust that You will enable me to serve lovingly.
I have much to write to you, but I do not want to use paper and ink. Instead, I hope to visit you and talk with you face to face, so that our joy may be complete.—2 John 1:12 (NIV)
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.—2 Corinthians 1:3–4 (NIV)
The one who gets wisdom loves life; the one who cherishes understanding will soon prosper.—Proverbs 19:8 (NIV)
