Come Aside

And He said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a secluded place and rest a while.”—MARK 6:31 NASB

Feeling overwhelmed?

Caregivers have so much to do—so many demands and so little help—that we can begin to feel sorry for ourselves. Some of that is inevitable, but the arrival of those feelings is a strong sign that we need to step back and rest, to make some time to regroup.

When we’re feeling stressed, few of us can just book a flight to Hawaii. So let’s build a quiet, serene place inside our hearts. If we enjoy walking in the garden, watching pretty sunsets, hiking through the woods, or sitting by the water—anything that’s peaceful and relaxing to us—we can create that scene in our mind and invite Jesus to minister to us there.

Any time we need a break, even if the time is short, that quiet place in our mind can provide refreshment and peace. The Lord will meet us there with refreshment and restoration. He’ll take our problems, renew our strength, give us peace…and the whole world will look brighter.

Lord, I thank You for my own secret place, that spot where I can meet You at any time. Remind me to go there often, not letting the cares of the day overwhelm me.
