Fall on God

Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.—MATTHEW 10:29 KJV

Falls are all too common for older folks with poor eyesight or coordination. It’s even possible for one who is in bed—with guardrails all about—to slide down onto the floor.

Caregivers worry about falls, since they can cause a drastic deterioration in health and well-being. Fall prevention is wise. But in the end, all of us must realize that, no matter what happens, God is in control. As He knows which sparrows fall from the sky, He knows which humans trip or slip or lose consciousness. Our Lord has not deserted either the one who fell or that person’s caregiver.

We all want our loved ones to live long and be healthy. If it were up to us, this illness might never have happened—and certainly a fall would have been avoided. But ultimately we can only trust our Lord, who sees far down our paths. Just as He guided the sparrow through a fall, He guides people, too—providing medical help and spiritual comfort.

Sometimes, when we don’t understand why, we simply need to fall on God. He has not deserted us, no matter what the outcome. If He cares for sparrows, will He love us less?

Lord, I rightly fear falls and try to fend them off. Please guard my loved one from harm. And no matter what happens, Lord, help me to trust in You—to fall upon You for comfort, guidance, strength, and peace.
