Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.—GALATIANS 6:9 NIV

One cartoon shows a man digging in a mine. We can see from a cutaway that he is inches from striking it rich.
But he drops his pick and walks away, thinking he’ll never get anywhere.

It’s easy to get discouraged. Sometimes it feels like we are the only ones doing the right thing. Sometimes it seems doing the right thing works against us. We want to give up and just go along. We aren’t getting anywhere. But many times people give up just before the fruit begins to show. God wants to encourage us to keep on going. He promises that we will see a harvest of our actions.

Galatians 6:9 reminds us that there are seasons. Just like a farmer plants a seed in one season and harvests the crop in the next, so it is with our actions. We don’t necessarily see the benefits of doing the right thing right away. Some benefits we might not see until we get to heaven.

In the meantime, doing good benefits us. It refines us, getting our hearts aligned with God’s. We act on His interests instead of our own, and we start seeing the world through His eyes. Keep looking for opportunities to do good and don’t give up. Trust in God’s promises.

Heavenly Father, help us see the world through Your eyes. Give us the wisdom to know the right thing to do. Amen.
