Well-Developed Faith

The testing of your faith develops perseverance.—JAMES 1:3 NIV

The faith of a caregiver is often tested. But experience teaches us to appreciate the gift that comes from testing, for perseverance blesses the committed Christian engaged in a godly care ministry.

Any caregiver can testify to the need for daily perseverance. If the current medical care has not provided a solution to pain, the caregiver can’t give up—questions need to be asked, more information uncovered, perhaps a new specialist consulted. When insurance balks at paying for services, it’s no time for avoidance—only by questioning, digging up information, and keeping an eye on every aspect of our loved one’s situation will we provide the best care possible.

God knows all these details—even those that have yet to occur. And through them, He grows our faith so that we may be well-prepared.

As we progress in caregiving, we’ll discover that a well-developed faith is a great blessing that keeps us going when details are many and positive results few. The day-to-day testing of caregiving can produce faith and perseverance that will bless the rest of our lives. Let’s do our jobs today and let God look ahead for us.

Though I don’t enjoy tests, Lord, I need their benefits. Keep me faithful throughout my time of caregiving.
