Search me, O God, and know my heart. (Psalm 139:23a)
People use online resources like Google and YouTube when looking for information. I have found them useful in my own inquiries. Online search engines are like modern-day encyclopedias.
The Psalmist could not have imagined anything like online search engines when he penned the Psalms and asked the Lord to search Him. It is clear from the request that he wanted to understand what was in his heart. When the search begins, it must go deep into areas that may not have been accessed before. There have been times when I have attempted to do my own examination, but it did not reveal what God was able to uncover.
The heart, the whole soul, is unsearchable to anyone but God. We are incapable of doing an accurate assessment. I believe that this is why we must pray and ask God to do what only he can. In our own searches, we tend to excuse, rationalize, and justify our actions. God is our search engine of the heart.
Here are some of the reasons to log into the search engine of the heart:
- Only God can do a thorough search. (Jeremiah 17:9-10 makes that claim)
- Search results provide a wonderful opportunity for intercession. (Romans 8:7)
- God wants us to have peace and be at peace. (Philippians 4:7)
Prayer point: As good as online searches are, no one can search the human heart but our Lord. Pray and ask God to turn on the searchlight from heaven and allow the results to guide you day by day.
