Another mass shooting. Another mass mourning. We have been here before and we are always left asking the same hopeless question: Why?
For Guideposts, the killing struck close to home. Newtown, Connecticut, is just a few miles down the road from our corporate headquarters in Danbury. Some of our employees have children in that school system, though thankfully no Guideposts family was directly affected. Still, the reverberations from such an awful occurrence, the psychic echo of those murderous gunshots, reach deep into the community and deep into the country. President Obama said it well—these are all our children.
There is no love deeper than the love for your children, and no pain greater than the loss of a child. And there is never really a satisfactory answer to the question why. No answer is sufficient. Not really.
Yet time and again in the wake of tragedies such as the one at Sandy Hook Elementary, we see where only faith and prayer can lead to forgiveness and healing. We turn to the greatest source we know for love and reassurance. Read one of my previous blogs which brought together powerful and inspiring stories from people who have lived through similar tragedies with their faith strengthened and their hearts mended.
