Walk in the Spirit

I choose to move in the direction of the spirit. I pray for the commitment to continue walking forward, never looking back.

Prayer blogger Peola Hicks

I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. (Galatians 5: 16)

I am a master of multitasking. When I am reading a book, I rarely read it all the way through before starting another. On occasion, I have carried on conversations while completing an email. One day while typing and talking, I suddenly heard the conversation stop: The other person told me they would wait until I finished my email. That was when I realized that multitasking does not always work.

The Bible has something to say about this: We cannot walk in the spirit and fulfill our own desires. We must choose to do one or the other. God’s requirement is to focus on going about daily activities doing the things that please him rather than focusing on ourselves. I have come to “walking in the spirit” as meaning that I am turning my back on my own desires. The things that I move away from are “works of the flesh.” It is me vs. the spirit. I choose to move in the direction of the spirit. I pray for the commitment to continue walking forward, never looking back.

The things I am walking toward are the fruit of the spirit: love, joy, peace, goodness, kindness, temperance, self-control, meekness and goodness. These are the things that I choose to give my attention. These are the things that please God. These are the things that I pray will be in my life. It is impossible to walk in the spirit and not please God. Since multitasking comes naturally to me… I have to work daily on staying focused on God’s desires.

Pray to be fruitful. Accept the challenge to move in the direction of the spirit and move away from your own desires.

God bless you!
