Combat boots–a type of footwear I never expected to know much about. But when our son enlisted in the military, I wanted to learn as much about his new career as possible and that included his uniform.
There’s a spiritual correlation between faith and combat boots. The boots provide a firm foundation that a soldier needs to fight. The thick soles give much-needed protection, no matter the terrain. They lace up over the ankle, so that each one can be adjusted for the best fit and to support a soldier’s lower leg.

But these sturdy boots don’t last forever. The demands on our men and women in uniform mean that their footwear only lasts a few months. Wear and tear comes quickly, and it’s important that the boots are replaced in a timely fashion.
We also face daily battles, and we need a firm, ongoing spiritual foundation to be able to stand strong. A thick sole of wisdom from God gives us the protection we need no matter the obstacles. Also, our boots are made to fit perfectly. Each pair gives us the unique covering we need.
But these spiritual combat boots aren’t our only source of strength. We must constantly return to the One who provided them to remain strong and ready for whatever battles come our way.
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23)
