Let God Carry Your Burdens

No matter what, I know God is already there, arms outstretched, to take my burdens and carry them for me.

Cast your cares on the LORD and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken. (Psalm 55:22)

I really hate grocery shopping.

Actually that’s not quite accurate. I don’t mind the shopping part, but I despise carrying the bags inside and putting things away. It’s not just because I’m lazy (that’s my story, and I’m sticking to it). I happen to have a bad back, and it tends to go out unexpectedly, especially when I’m not careful how I lift.

My husband and kids know this, and even though they don’t like this chore any better than I do, they’re always around to help. Actually, they are there even before I ask because they love me, and they anticipate my needs.

God does exactly the same thing, only more so. He knows what we need before we ask and is always there to sustain us, surrounding us with his care and protection.

I experienced this aspect of God’s personality first-hand during our son’s time in the military. God put people in my path to help me with every aspect of being a mom to an active duty Marine. There were people to help with everything from ideas of what to send in deployment packages, to those offering a shoulder to cry on when the thought of him so far away was more than I could handle.

In addition, I frequently prayed the Psalm verse (above) to God for my son’s protection during the deployments. It gave me comfort to know that God is always true to His Word and His character and would sustain my son, no matter the circumstances.

That time has given me a foundation for the challenges I’ve continued to face. No matter what, I know God is already there, arms outstretched, to take my burdens and carry them for me.
