May is National Military Appreciation Month, and one of the best ways to support our military is by loving their families. So often those serving in the military must make hard choices between between family and work. We can step in and help ease that burden. Here are 5 ways to reach out:

1)  Get Specific
Instead of a general “let me know if I can do anything for you,” take some specific steps such as making freezer friendly meals, offering babysitting service so couples get some alone time or giving a gift card to the movies or a restaurant.

2)  Pray
When a military family comes to mind, give them a call or a text and let them know you’re praying for them and their loved one who’s serving.

3)  Include the Spouse
So often military spouses feel like part-time singles. Including them in normal activities and social events helps alleviate that.

4)  Include the Kids
If you’re taking your kids for ice cream or to the park, call a military mom or dad and offer to swing by and include theirs as well.

5)  Listen
We all need a safe place to vent and process the difficult things in life. Offering to sit and listen is a powerful act of friendship.

These are just a few things we can do to show our support for the men and women serving in our military.
