Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken. (Psalm 55:22)
I used to believe something that wasn’t in the Bible. I thought that God would never give me more than I could handle.
Then our oldest son enlisted in the Marine Corps and served two tours in Iraq as a frontline infantry Marine.
I quickly came to realize that God had allowed something in my life that I couldn’t handle—by myself. The thought of what my son was going through in a war zone almost incapacitated me with terror.
This wasn’t something I could fix. I couldn’t follow him over there, I couldn’t stand between him and the enemy, and I couldn’t force him not to go. I had come face-to-face with more than I could handle.
That was when I realized the truth was even better than being able to handle everything on my own. God showed me that no matter how too-big-for-me a situation was—it was never too big for Him.
I grabbed hold of God’s promises—for me and especially for my son—and held on tight. God did not disappoint. No matter what came my way, as long as I was with God, my foundation couldn’t be shaken.
So next time we’re tempted to settle for the lie that God won’t give us more than we can handle—trade it in for the truth. Nothing is too big for God, and He will not allow us to be shaken.
