I can’t believe it’s been 10 years since I wrote my editor’s note about turning 40. And I thought that was a big number! The event inspired me to try something new and, to my mind, somewhat revolutionary.
Ready? For the momentous occasion all those many moons ago, I made my very first internet purchase, a birthday present to myself. I chose a pink leather “Love Me Tender” motorcycle jacket I found on elvis.com. Good thing I didn’t wait till I turned 50 to treat myself too, because on last look that luscious pink jacket with a red heart embroidered on the sleeve was out of stock. Mine is still in excellent condition (I’m not doing so bad myself, if I may say so!), and internet shopping has had me hooked ever since.
Oh, I had my reservations about sharing my personal information—especially my credit card number—online. But I figured I’d handed over my card at countless restaurants, even during the busy lunchtime rush in my favorite New York City bistro. I’d even forgotten my credit card at the mall a couple times, picking it up when I realized my mistake the next day!
Of course I’m careful about visiting only trustworthy websites, like guideposts.org and angelsonearth.org. If you haven’t already, check out shopguideposts.com. Any information you provide on the site is securely transmitted so your shopping experience can be worry-free. You’ll find books, cards, music and gifts, all inspiring, all from Guideposts. And
naturally you’ll find angels! In fact, if you order anything from our angel category right now, you can take advantage of free standard shipping and handling, an exclusive offer to Angels on Earth customers through July 17, 2011 (my birthday). I bet you’ll find something you like just as much as I like my Elvis jacket.
