Valentine’s Day produces mixed emotions for many people. Although it should be a time to celebrate love with a significant other, for many it’s a reminder of failed relationships, the loss of a loved one or lack of a relationship. However, one love remains constant, faithful and consistent…God’s love for us. His love never fails us.
Love is the essence of God’s character. While other relationships may fail, His love is permanent. Our faults, mistakes and shortcomings don’t negate God’s love for us. Author Philip Yancey writes, “Grace teaches us that God loves because of who God is, not because of who we are.”
Why is God’s love important? Human love can be imperfect, limited and conditional. This is not to say that the love humans feel for one another isn’t real, but it cannot measure up to the love that God feels for each and every one of us. The more we embrace the love from our creator, the more we learn to love others.
On this Valentine’s Day remember to show your friends, family and loved ones just how much they mean to you. If you have lost a loved one or find yourself in a broken or distant relationship, take comfort in God’s love for you. As C. S. Lewis said, ”Though our feelings come and go, God’s love for us does not.” May His love fill your heart. What amazes you about God’s love? Please share with us.
Lord, thank you for your unconditional love for us; teach us to love others as You love us.
