I’ve been banished to the hills for a few days while Julee records back in the city and I try to shake this nasty cold that’s been making the rounds and finally caught up with me (and when transmitted can ruin a singer’s performance). So I’ve been exiled like someone with TB in the old days.

Of course, Millie’s sure cure for a cold is a brisk hike in the clear cold air. I’m sharing a picture of her administering her cure to me. At least it didn’t kill me.

I also wanted to catch up on some work and, more importantly, write a few sympathy cards that were overdue. It is always so hard to distill into simple words something commensurate with the immensity of loss. Grief is as universal a feeling as there is, as universal as love, the very price we pay for love. We are creatures of love and so, in a way, creatures of grief. And yet it is, from my experience, the most subjective and personal of all emotional journeys, an existential singularity.

Yet we must reach out, to both the grieving and those who love them. This is the time of year when we can’t help but remember the ones we’ve lost. Let’s try to also remember one another.
