It was a blustery day on the beach at St. Simons Island, Georgia. The wind was blowing so hard this particular morning, it made the feathers stand up on this reddish egret.

Most of the morning the egret was surrounded by seagulls as they all searched for breakfast. It was as though everyone was fighting for the same fish. When he caught a fish, the seagulls hovered overhead.

It did not matter if the egret flew somewhere else, the seagulls would follow. I am sure he was weary and tired of constantly battling them.

The New Year has just begun, but so many people came into 2015 carrying heavy burdens. You or a family member may be sick, there may be financial burdens, family strife, addiction, persecution, unemployment and many others.

The wind may be blowing hard in your life, but we too can heed Jesus’ words when we are weary.

Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.’” (Matthew 11:28, NLT)
