These are the shows you need to catch up on before the Emmy Awards air on September 17

There are plenty of Emmy-nominated shows to love on this year’s list, but with so much quality television available, it can be difficult to know what’s worth watching. Here are a few series that will warm your heart, lift your spirit and fill you with inspiration.

Before the third season of the #1 family drama on TV premiers on September 25, catch up on the second season, which follows the Pearson family at various stages in their lives. The show is nominated in several categories including Outstanding Drama Series. Two stars, Sterling K. Brown and Milo Ventimiglia are nominated for Lead Actor in a Drama Series. The distinction of winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony (EGOT) had only been accomplished by 12 people before John Legend, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, joined the EGOT club, winning the Best Variety Special (Live) category at the Creative Arts Emmys last weekend. The live production of this classic musical is packed with powerhouse performances from John Legend (also nominated in the Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie category), Sarah Bareilles and Brandon Victor Dixon.
