7 Inspiring Dogs on TV

Need more puppy love in your life? These barking Hollywood stars will do just the trick

In real life and in fiction, pets play an integral role in their owners’ lives. Here are seven of the most inspiring dogs who have ever graced the small screen.

Lassie

1 of 7 Lassie - Lassie

The first dog to make a splash on television, Lassie was based on a series of books and movies. The television show featuring stories of the Rough Collie’s heroism aired for almost 20 years and featured six dogs in the titular role.

Vincent and Walt

2 of 7 Vincent - Lost

The adorable yellow lab was a symbol of hope on this dramatic show. Over time Vincent (played in real life by a dog named Madison) became a trusted companion to everyone on the island, exploring the region with various characters and alerting the camp to outside dangers.

Eddie in Frasier

3 of 7 Eddie - Frasier

Few pets played a more integral role on a show than Eddie, the Parson Russell Terrier who tormented Frasier. In real life he was played by Moose, and then Moose’s son Enzo. The dog was famous for being remarkably human-like and staring for unnerving lengths of time at Frasier.

The cast of Full House

4 of 7 Comet - Full House

The lovable golden retriever didn’t enter the show until its third season and quickly became a fan favorite. Comet’s legacy lives on in the spinoff show Fuller House, where his grandson Comet Jr. Jr. is a recurring character.

The cast of 7th Heaven

5 of 7 Happy - 7th Heaven

This beloved family pet was played by a Terrier named Happy in real life. The adorable pup was taken in by the family in the show’s pilot episode and went on to appear in every episode of the show.

Lauren Graham and Paul Anka

6 of 7 Paul Anka - Gilmore Girls

Lorelai didn’t adopt this quirky dog until season 6, but for the next two seasons and the 2016 revival of the show, Paul Anka was an essential character. He’s well known for his fears of common household items such as CDs and pictures, and his dislike of people watching him eat.

The cast of Mad About You

7 of 7 Murray - Mad About You

Maui, the dog who played Murray on the comedy Mad About You, was rescued from a shelter by an animal trainer. On the show the collie mix had a reputation for being slightly dim witted and constantly getting separated from his owners. Murray played a crucial role in bringing the Buchmans, the married couple the show centered on, together.
