Hollywood’s testing another Biblical epic on the silver screen with Sony’s latest film, Risen.
The movie, starring Joseph Fiennes and Tom Felton, follows Clavius, a Roman soldier charged with investigating the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Fiennes plays the title character, a skeptic and cynic who finds himself confronting the impossible when the body of his prisoner goes missing and rumors spread that the Messiah is alive again.
The actor, who recently visited the Vatican to screen the film with Pope Francis, told USA Today he was excited to bring such a well-known story to the big screen in a completely different way.
“The Bible is the most extraordinarily rich source of narratives, featuring the most beautiful stories ever written or handed down,” he says. “”This is an extraordinary story and well-known to everyone. But it takes us on this journey through the eyes of a nonbeliever.”
Risen hits theaters Feb. 19th.
