High Kicks and Dreams

Radio City Rockette Jessica Osborne has an inspiring story. But what inspires her?

A Rockette's inspiring story

As a little girl, Jessica Osborne dreamed of becoming a Rockette. Today, she performs in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Jessica’s 5 Greatest Inspirations:

1. My Younger Sister, Olivia
She is now 9 years old, but was diagnosed with diabetes when she was 6. She’s an old soul with the insight of an adult, but the freedom and honesty of a child. She fights every day to maintain a normal life, but is tough as nails. She accepts that she is different, and that helps her to see and accept others for who they are.

2. The Support I Get from My Entire Family
Seeing them work so hard every day to balance home and careers, and then to receive so much support no matter the choices I make. They are my rock.

3. The Rockettes
Being a part of a legacy that creates memories and relationships for a lifetime is an honor and an inspiration. Not only is this job an honor in the dance world, but it’s a humbling experience as a human being. To see how our shows and personal visits and events affect people is beyond inspiring.

4. My Grandmother, Evelyn
She battled cancer and lost. But when I need to be lifted up on a day when I’m down, I feel her, and I can still see the look in her eyes, telling me I need to fight for what I want, and for what I deserve.

5. Faith
Faith in people, faith in myself, faith in God that everything happens for a reason.

Jessica’s 3 tips on Achieving Dreams:

1. Don’t hold back.
Fear is an idea we create. It inhibits us from achieving our ultimate potential. As I say, “Go big, or go home.”

2. Maintain a strong support system.
Mine include close friends, my family, mentors and my voice teacher. Surround yourself with equally ambitious people that either share your ideas and goals, or support you in those decisions.

3. Treat yourself well.
Work hard but treat your body with respect. Your body and mind are the vehicle to going after what you want and need. Give yourself a break once and a while. Stay strong, but don’t burn out. (In other words, give yourself a massage, a yoga class, a bike ride in the park or some down time with great company.)
